Helping You Seamlessly Get Where You Need to Go
Zimride by Enterprise is a secure new ride-sharing platform administered in partnership with Citizens for Modern Transit for companies, universities and individuals. It enables those in need of a ride, or with an empty seat to share, to join a private network that connects them with co-workers, fellow students or other commuters who have similar routes and commuting schedules.
Zimride is free. Those interested in joining simply need to register below, create a profile and search for rides or riders. Once a match is identified, users can search Zimride reviews and connect through a Facebook interface, before coordinating logistics and putting plans in place to share a ride in their personal vehicles. Those interested in splitting gas costs can even do so securely through this site.
It is also important to note that Ridesharing through Zimride can also be used in tandem with transit to help eliminate any gaps that may exist between local transit stations and a user’s home, work or college campus.
Simply put, it’s yet another viable option in the St. Louis region for the multi-modal commuter.
How is Zimride different than Uber and Lyft?
While ride-hailing services like Uber and Lyft can help meet transportation needs, both require drivers to be self-employed service providers who are willing to be on-call and ready to go out of their way, in a moment’s notice, to transport passengers for a single point-to-point trip. These options don’t necessarily have a positive impact on the environment and can sometimes be costly!
With Zimride, drivers use the Zimride network to pre-plan their trip in order to share rides with others who are headed in the same direction at the same time. Zimride encourages every seat in a car to be filled, and can effectively be leveraged to reduce the number of single-occupancy vehicles on the road. As a bonus, congestion and pollution can be mitigated. Zimride users can track their individual greenhouse gas emission reduction based on their transportation choices.
Why is Citizens for Modern Transit partnering with Enterprise?
The St. Louis region has a very successful, integrated public transportation system that offers access to nearly 95 percent of local jobs and educational facilities within Metro’s service area. Yet, for some, it isn’t the most convenient and timely option. Citizens for Modern Transit partners with Enterprise because the company offers a number of mobility solutions that make sense for transit users.
