Ten Toes Special Walks Explore Illinois

Recently, the Ten Toe Express explored historic Belleville with the Belleville Historic society with a tour of the Hexenbuckel Historic District.  The Hexenbuckel Historic District is a pre-civil war residential neighborhood featuring a variety of historic homes.  After the informative guided tour, the group stopped for lunch in downtown Belleville before returning to the MetroLink for the return trip.

The next Illinois Ten Toe Express special walk is quickly approaching on May 2nd.  The group will explore the Swansea Farmers Market followed by a trip to Neighbor’s Marketplace.  The walk will include the Swansea Farmers Market, a not-for-profit organization established in 2009, that currently features vendors selling fruits, vegetables, meats, and crafts. Walkers are encouraged to bring their own shopping bags to take home their tasty treasures.

The second stop on our Metro-East tour is Neighbor’s Marketplace. Neighbor’s is a newly opened grocery store less than one block from the Emerson Park MetroLink Station.  The new store offers fresh produce, on location butcher, deli services, ready-to-eat hot foods and more.  The store provides healthy choices in what was a food desert.  There is still space available.
