St. Clair County Transit District to Host Open House to Talk IL MetroBus Proposed Changes

SCCTD Ad UpdatedThe St. Clair County Transit District (SCCTD) is hosting a public open house on Monday, Oct. 21 at Cahokia High School, 800 Range Ln, Cahokia, IL 62206 from 6 to 8 p.m. to talk Illinois proposed changes to the Illinois Metrobus system. The location is accessible by MetroBus.  SCCTD is conducting an in-depth review of the existing transit network through a study called SCCTD Transit Vision 2020. The purpose of the study is to identify what is and is not working well, where service is and is not needed, and ultimately, how SCCTD can better serve the region. For the last several months, data has been gathered from residents at pop-up events, online, stakeholder and public meetings.

“SCCTD has held numerous public engagement opportunities including pop-up events at transit stations, an online survey, stakeholder meetings, and an open house. Our consulting teams has heard from  our residents, and now they will be presenting the proposed new vision for the system that meets the needs of our communities,” said Herb Simmons, chair of the St. Clair County Transit District Board of Trustees.

The Oct. 21 meeting will be an Open House format with formal remarks from 6:30- 7 p.m.   Participants will have the opportunity to hear from the consulting team on the proposed changes to the 18 MetroBus routes in Southwestern Illinois.

Through SCCTD Transit Vision 2020, SCCTD hopes to:

  • Better understand how we can best serve our existing and potential customers, and further define transit’s role in regional mobility and economic development.
  • Increase ridership through improved design and operation of public transit in St. Clair County and the surrounding metro area.
  • Establish a framework for making decisions about existing and future transit service.
  • Develop closer links between SCCTD and the community that builds advocacy and ownership.

The St. Clair County Transit District (SCCTD) is committed to ensuring a safe, effective and efficient transit system. In April, the SCCTD Board approved a contract with Transportation Management Design, Inc. (TMD) to conduct a comprehensive 9-month analysis of the 18 fixed bus routes in St. Clair County – Transit Vision 2020.
