Wednesday, April 1, 2020 – Kickoff Walk: St. Louis Armory with Real Estate Developer Green Street

Built in 1938 by the federal Public Works Administration, the 200,000 square foot St. Louis Armory was for many years home to the 138th Infantry Missouri National Guard. Later it hosted amateur sports, including tennis, where future greats Arthur Ashe and Jimmy Connors trained, as well as rock concerts, including the Grateful Dead and Tina Turner. Now Green Street, a St. Louis- based commercial real estate company that specializes in green infill development and adaptive re-use, is excited to breathe new life into the building. Plans call for a complete renovation to house commercial office space that will become an anchor for the redevelopment of this area of Midtown St. Louis.

Join us for a special guest led tour by members of the Green Street team for the Armory Development.  Walkers will explore the site for 45 minutes and are required to wear closed-toed shoes.

Ten Toe Walkers will explore the first quarter-mile section of the planned 20-mile Chouteau Greenway network that will eventually connect Forest Park, Fairground Park, Tower Grove Park and Gateway Arch National Park.  The $15 million project was developed as a public-private partnership with Great Rivers Greenway, Cortex, the Washington University Medical Center, Bi-State/Metro, and the City of St. Louis with a major federal TIGER grant and included the greenway, the new Cortex MetroLink Station and capacity enhancement to the Central West End MetroLink Station.  Citizens for Modern Transit funded the feasibility study leading to the acquisition of the TIGER grant to fund the project.  It is also the first collaboratively designed transit station and greenway.

Special guest walk leader Mark Vogl, GRG Project Manager, will discuss the amenities and station features with walkers and discuss long-term plans, goals, and details of the planned Chouteau Greenway.
