Tomorrow, transportation systems across the country including Metro will celebrate Dump the Pump Day!
National Dump the Pump Day encourages people to ride public transportation (instead of driving) and save money. Let us know how you plan to dump the pump this year at info@cmt-stl.org or on CMT’s Facebook page. The most creative commute submitted will receive a FREE Monthly Transit Pass for July ($72 value) – now tell us that is not a great way to dump the pump for more than one day!
Today, a regular transit commuter, Nick, gave us his story –
I cannot dump the pump because I never use a pump because I don’t own a car. Tomorrow I plan to attend class at Wash. U. by taking the #91 & #2, or the #258 & the Blue train, from my parents’ house in Chesterfield, depending on what time I get moving. In case I go out at night, I’ll use the on-line trip planner and the maps I’ve downloaded to my smart phone to chart a course, and in case I stay out after the last bus/train, I’ll take a cab. That’s right, I’m not allergic to cabs–they’re cheaper than owning a car.All the best, Nick Weil
Riding public transit is an economical way to save money, particularly when gas prices are high. The latest APTA Transit Savings Report shows that a two person household that downsizes to one car can save – on the average – about $10,000 a year.
Ready, set, GO TRANSIT in STL with Metro!
