Join CMT in Supporting Multi-Modal Relief Funding

Citizens for Modern Transit is joining a group of organizations and associations in Missouri supporting multi-modal relief funding and a  multi-year, long term transportation reauthorization bill.  Join CMT and other stakeholders in contacting your US Senators to urge them to support this effort with the following two asks:

  • First, we request an immediate $49.95 billion in flexible multi-modal federal funding to offset what the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) estimates will average at least a 30 percent loss in state transportation revenues in the next 18 months.
  • Second, in order to boost years-long economic recovery that will be necessary once the national emergency subsides, Congress should look to pass a major multi-modal transportation investment package in the form of multi-year surface transportation and water transportation reauthorization.

The 30% decline in revenues projected by AASHTO equals $925 million in Missouri state revenues, resulting in the Missouri Department of Transportation losing the ability to leverage an additional $2.1 billion in federal funds with significant reductions in transportation funding across the state including transit. The direct and indirect economic output supported by public transit’s annual operations in 2019 exceeds $3.67 billion in Missouri.

A bipartisan effort to reauthorize surface transportation programs, and provide $49.95 billion as an immediate revenue backstop to state DOT’s, would create and sustain thousands of Missouri jobs, shore up our nation’s highway, transit, passenger rail, and water transportation systems, and send a bold signal to raise consumer and investor confidence and expectations for economic recovery, while strengthening our national transportation system for decades to come.

Please contact Missouri and Illinois Senators and urge them to support these efforts:
