The House approved President Joe Biden’s $1.9 trillion COVID-19 relief package early Saturday. The bill, known as the American Rescue Plan (H.R. 1319), passed 219-212.
The bill will now be taken up by the Senate this week. It provides $30.5 billion in COVID-19 emergency funding for public transit agencies to continue to provide service to essential workers, ensure access to vaccine distribution sites and advance communities’ efforts to rebuild the nation’s economy.
The Senate is evenly divided with 50 Democrats and 50 Republicans. The Senate is expected to consider amendments, including those that would possibly cut or eliminate the public transit emergency funding. Consider contacting your Senator and urge them to pass H.R. 1319 and to oppose any amendments to cut or eliminate the transit funding.
