Citizens for Modern Transit’s Board of Directors, staff and members are deeply saddened to hear of the senseless crime on Sunday, Jan. 31, that resulted in the tragic death of a Metro Transit contracted G4S security officer. Our deepest condolences go out to his family and friends, as well as our partners at Bi-State Development and Metro Transit.
As the regional transit advocacy organization, we believe there must be enhanced law enforcement patrols on the entire St. Louis transit system – including the trains and Transit Centers. We must also continue to make regional collaboration among all law enforcement and elected officials a top priority to establish a safe, secure transit system for all riders, operators, and employees.
Public transit is a critical component of the St. Louis transportation system. It provides an essential service that people rely on daily. The safety of everyone on the system must be the top priority.
