2020 Ten Toe Express Fall Session Kickoff Announced

Mark your calendar for the 2020 Ten Toe Express Fall Session with a kickoff walk scheduled for September 2, 2020.  As the region continues to deal with the impacts of COVID-19, Citizens for Modern Transit will be taking extra precautions this year for its walks. All registered walkers will receive a Ten Toe Express banded washable mask and hand sanitizer in their Ten Toe kits.

Additionally, special walks for the fall 2020 session will primarily take place outside.  Social distancing protocols will be observed throughout the walk and masks will be required when not social distancing outside.  Walk participants are encouraged to wash their hands frequently, avoid touching their face, and use hand sanitizer when possible.

The kickoff tour will include a walk to the recently completed Maplewood Transit Stop Transformation Project. Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT) and AARP in St. Louis have been working to activate the Maplewood MetroBus Stop – located at the southwest corner of Manchester Rd. and Marshall Ave. – in partnership with the City of Maplewood, Citizens National Bank and KABOOM!, a national non-profit that partners with communities to expand play opportunities for kids. Residents, riders, and walkers can take advantage of the newly renovated space – located adjacent to the Citizens National Bank parklet – and see firsthand how it encourages active play, cultivates community and increases transit use. CMT Executive Director Kim Cella will be on site to speak about the project first hand.

Other special walks happening this fall include:

  • Tuesday, September 29th – Exploring St. Vincent Greenway with Great Rivers Greenway
  • Thursday, October 15 – MetroBikeLink Trail Walk – Scenic Fall Foliage Walk
  • Fall Special Walk Finale – Mystery Walk – TBA

The Ten Toe Express program enables participants to gain access to a variety of helpful resources, including walk maps that provide detailed directives on how to utilize transit to get to many of the region’s cultural and entertainment hot spots. New registrants receive a walking kit containing a pedometer, maps, transit tickets, mask, hand sanitizer, safety tips and a Ten Toe tote bag. Participants can take part in weekly guided Ten Toe Express Walking Tours, which allow walkers to be part of a group as they become familiar with the transit system. These walks, led by trained walk leaders, range in length from 0.3 to 5 miles, depending on the group and destination, and originate from the Brentwood, Forest Park, Belleville, and Shrewsbury MetroLink stations.

Ten Toe Express groups walk in a variety of places, including Forest Park or Carondelet Park, downtown St. Louis or the Delmar Loop. Participants can also take part in several special walks. The cost to participate in the fall session is $10.

Special thanks to AARP in St. Louis for their partnership on the Ten Toe Express Program.
