Metro Transit recently provided transit riders an update on the status of the 8th & Pine MetroLink Station in downtown St. Louis which has been closed for renovations since April 2024. The transit agency also announced plans to begin work at the Civic Center Transit Center on October 28 to add new safety and security infrastructure as part of the Secure Platform Plan.
At 8th and Pine, as construction crews worked to replace the escalators and install a new staircase and elevator shaft, structural issues were discovered on the abutment walls which caused a delay due to the changed scope of the project. Metro Transit expects the station to reopen by December 2024. President and CEO of BiState Development Taulby Roach expresses his appreciation for the patience of transit riders as they continue to work to reopen 8th and Pine as quickly as possible.
At Civic Center Transit Center, riders will need to follow temporary detours as they travel between the MetroLink platform and the transit center building or bus stops starting October 28. These detours are temporary and are expected to remain in place through the end of November. The detours are necessary as crews work to install the necessary materials for the Secure Platform Plan.
