Metro Transit recently released an update on the progress of the Secure Platform Plan. When the Secure Platform Plan was initiated, it was divided into six packages to ensure progress across the system could be seen as individual packages reached completion. The following outlines the status of each of the six packages.
Package 1 – Includes Emerson Park, Jackie Joyner Kersee, Washington Park, and College MetroLink Stations. Package 1 is currently at 100% design and is undergoing construction by Millstone-Weber. It is expected to be operational by June 2024.
Package 2 – Includes Delmar, Forest Park, Central West End, Cortex, Grand, Union Station, and Civic Center MetroLink Stations. Package 2 is currently at 100% design and construction has been awarded to Millstone-Weber. It is expected to be operational by December 2024.
Package 3 – Includes Laclede’s Landing, North Hanley, UMSL North, UMSL South, Rock Road, and Wellston MetroLink Stations. Package 3 is approaching 95% design and will be bid for construction in December 2024.
Package 4 – Includes Lambert 1 and 2, Stadium, 8th and Pine, Convention Center, Skinker, Big Bend, and Forsyth MetroLink Stations. Package 4 is approaching 95% design and will be bid for construction in December 2024.
Package 5 – Includes East Riverfront, 5th and Missouri, Fairview Heights, Memorial, Swansea, Belleville, Shiloh Scott, and Mid-America MetroLink Stations. Package 5 is at 30% design and will be bid for construction in December 2024.
Package 6 – Includes Shrewsbury, Sunnen, Maplewood, Brentwood, Richmond Heights, and Clayton MetroLink Stations. Package 6 is at 30% design and will be bid for construction in December 2024.
In August of 2022, the Bi-State Board of Commissioners approved a contract to HNTB for $6,948,587 for professional engineering services for the MetroLink Secure Platform Plan. The Bi-State Board voted unanimously to move the contract forward.
The Secure Platform Plan encompasses gates, fencing, and cameras for the 39 MetroLink stations throughout the region. Financial support for this project includes funding from St. Louis County, City of St. Louis, and St. Clair County Transit District. Private donations total more than $10 million towards cost of this project. In addition, federal stimulus funds will be utilized as well.
