Madison County Transit (MCT) has announced plans for $45 million in bike and bus investments. The investment includes $34 million expansion of its bike trail system, now including more than 20 miles of new trails, two tunnels and seven bridges. In addition, they will invest another $11 million in their bus system.
This agency currently operators 138 miles of bike trails. More than $12 million will be used for a shared-use path in downtown Alton and six other Riverbend communities. One of the two tunnels will be built in Collinsville under Illinois 157.
As for the buses, their biggest investment will be a $4.2 million transfer station to serve the Logistics Valley that is home to a variety of businesses with nearly 30 warehouses in the Gateway Commerce Enterprise Zone.
Other transit projects include building a $2.8 million park-and-ride lot in Collinsville, renovating the transfer station in Granite City, and adding new technology to buses so riders can track the next available bus.
