The 2.2 mile Loop Trolley, connecting the Delmar and Forest Park MetroLink Stations, is set to begin operation on Friday, Nov. 16 with an official ribbon cutting and soft launch event held on November 15. The event will celebrate the completion of testing of the trolley cars and the beginning of service.
The trolley will run Thursdays and Sundays from 12 to 8 p.m. On Friday and Saturday, it will operate between 12 and 11 p.m. Trolley tickets will cost $2 for a two-hour fare and $5 for an all-day fare. Passengers age 65 or older, passengers with disabilities and children between the ages of 5 and 12 are eligible for a 50 percent reduced fare ticket. The trolley fare system is completely separate from the Metro Transit system. The trolley will run on 20 to 25 minute intervals.
The $51 million project was funded by a $25 million Urban Circulator Grant from the Federal Transit Administration; federal grants from the Congestion Mitigation & Air Quality Improvement Program (CMAQ) and Surface Transportation Program (STP); St. Louis County Mass Transit Fund; Great Rivers Greenway; donations; and proceeds from the Loop Trolley Transportation Development District.
