Representing a nearly $10 million investment in the economy, a light rail interlocking project near the UMSL South MetroLink Station is now complete. The new interlocking system, which took slightly over a year to complete, provides improved operational flexibility, and allows Metro to more effectively maintain the rail system while minimizing system delays.
The interlocking was built using approximately $8.5 million dollars in federal economic stimulus funds, $1.1 million in other federal funding, $289,000 in local financing, and is part of Metro’s ongoing efforts to improve our regional infrastructure and build a better transit system for the citizens of the metropolitan St. Louis area.
The grand opening of the new interlocking system will be this Friday, March 8, 2012 at 9:15 a.m. at the UMSL South MetroLink Station – 7798 Natural Bridge Road, St. Louis, MO 63121.
