In an effort to enable transit riders to engage directly with transit officials on the rollout of new safety and security measures tied to the Secure Platform Plan, Citizens for Modern Transit is hosting a “Candid Conversation with Commuters” in partnership with Metro Transit and the St. Clair County Transit District. The virtual event will take place on Thursday, June 5, 2025, at 11:30 a.m. via Zoom. It will provide a platform for the community to ask questions about security gating, fencing, surveillance cameras, fare technology and the timetable associated with the implementation of the multi-tiered strategy designed to create a more secure transit environment. In addition, CMT will discuss ways to get involved. The virtual event is free and open to the public. Registration is required and can be completed here.
The discussion will feature Kevin Scott, General Manager of Security at Bi-State Development; Travis Wood, Senior Program Director at Citizens for Modern Transit, and Tom Curran, Executive Vice President of Administration at Bi-State Development. The conversation will be moderated by Kimberly Cella, Executive Director of Citizens for Modern Transit.
Those interested in submitting a question in advance of the forum can do so via Citizens for Modern Transit’s social media channels or by emailing the advocacy organization directly at info@cmt-stl.org. Questions will also be taken through the “chat” feature on Zoom during the forum.
“This virtual forum will enable transit riders and other stakeholder to get their questions answered, while allowing transit officials to reinforce important reminders and ensure the public knows how to access updates, educational videos and other pertinent information tied to the project,” commented Cella.
CMT’s “Candid Conversation with Commuters,” targeting the general public, is a spin-off of its quarterly “Talking Transit” events designed to keep members, elected officials, stakeholders, transit riders and others in the loop on issues and efforts influencing the local transit system. These educational gatherings feature guest speakers and panel discussions that address a wide range of topics, including transit-oriented development, safety and security, best practices, service changes and more.
