Citizens for Modern Transit’s Ten Toe Express® Creates Community in Group Where Loneliness is Health Concern

A recent report published in the Nature Mental Health journal examines loneliness as one risk factor for cognitive health. According to the report, loneliness increases the risk for all-cause dementia. The authors reviewed data from ongoing aging studies to develop this report.

“At Citizens for Modern Transit, we have had the privilege of witnessing many friendships develop as a result of participation in the CMT Ten Toe Express® program, a transit-based walking program that relies on MetroBus and MetroLink in the St. Louis region to deliver walkers to their walk destination,” said Kimberly Cella, executive director of CMT.

Since the inception of the program in 2007, the CMT Ten Toe Express® program has introduced more than 8000 people to each other and to the public transit system here in the St. Louis region.

No matter your age, if you are looking for a way to connect with others and get out and explore areas of interest in the region, we encourage you to consider joining us for the remainder of the Fall 2024 season, or to make plans to join us in Spring 2025 for another 12 weeks of walks and utilizing public transit.
