Starting September 9, MetroLink riders will begin using newly installed security gates to access the Emerson Park MetroLink Station platform. Implementation will occur at three other MetroLink stations in St. Clair County later in September.
Security personnel will manually operate the gates until a new fare collection system is installed. Riders will show the security personnel their valid transit pass or ticket before the gate is opened to allow the rider through to the MetroLink platform. Metro Transit recommends those boarding MetroLink at Emerson Park allow a few extra minutes for their commutes as they become familiar with the new gate procedure for accessing the platform.
The three other stations to come online in September include:
- Jackie Joyner-Kersee MetroLink Station: Gates being implemented week of September 16
- Washington Park MetroLink Station: Gates being implemented week of September 23
- College MetroLink Station: Gates being implemented week of September 30
Security gates and fencing are currently under construction at several stations in Missouri: Delmar Loop, Forest Park-DeBaliviere, Central West End, Cortex, Grand, Union Station, and Civic Center. Security gates and fencing are expected to be installed and operational at all 38 MetroLink stations by January 2026.
