Ride, Skate, Celebrate: Choose Transit for Your STL Winterfest Outing

The holiday season will soon kick into gear in downtown St. Louis with the return of the annual Winterfest event in Kiener Plaza, running from November 22 through January 11. Classic holiday activities like ice-skating, light displays, s’mores stations and more will draw in thousands from across the region. While the thrill of enjoying a warm drink, admiring the lights, and gliding around on the ice rink is the main draw, the logistics of getting to the event can consume the fun as attendees look for parking in adjacent garages and deal with stressful driving on downtown streets.

Instead, Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT) encourages event attendees to consider transit for their Winterfest to-and-from travel. With the 8th & Pine MetroLink Station located less than a .25-mile walk, attendees can ditch parking fees and stress, arriving at Kiener Plaza refreshed and merry. MetroBus routes that will drop riders nearby include the #19, #32, #40, and #97. If you’re new to transit and need assistance planning your trip downtown, try out Metro Transit’s Trip Planner here. Additionally, you can find a list of Metro Transit Park-Ride lots here for those that would like to leave their vehicle at a MetroLink station.

Through the end of November, CMT will even cover your ride to Winterfest via our “Commute Like a Champ” campaign. Visit www.commutelikeachamp.com to register for a single Adventure transit pass, good for an entire day of rides on MetroBus or MetroLink, to use for your Winterfest outing. Passes will be mailed via USPS after registering so please allow time to receive them before your planned trip.
