Make a Difference on Transit: Volunteer with CMT

CMT, the region’s transit advocacy organization, is seeking volunteers for the Metro Monitor and Ten Toes + Transit programs, as well as upcoming rider engagement events. Find more information about ongoing volunteer needs and opportunities below.

Metro Monitor:

CMT’s Metro Monitor Program enlists riders to keep a real‑time pulse on safety and security across Metro Transit’s Transit Centers, MetroBus vehicles and MetroLink trains. Since its relaunch in 2020, hundreds of volunteers have submitted monthly surveys to monitor security visibility, fare inspections, station upkeep, lighting, cleanliness, rider engagement and even nuisance behavior. These insights are shared monthly with Metro Transit Public Safety and inform transit-system safety protocols.

If you’re a rider that cares about safe, clean transit, this is your chance to make a difference. As a Metro Monitor, you are eligible to receive two free Adventure Passes each month. Those passes may be used for multiple rides over the course of a day on MetroBus or MetroLink – anywhere you may need to go – before completing a quick survey about your ride. Monitors help identify areas for improvement in real time – making our region’s transit system safer for everyone.

Interested? Become a Metro Monitor today by filling out the online form or emailing info@cmt‑stl.org.

Ten Toes + Transit:

CMT is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join the Ten Toes + Transit program as Walk Leaders. The program encourages area residents to explore the St. Louis region by combining the benefits of walking with public transit use, all while promoting healthy living, community engagement, and learning about the surrounding area.

Walk Leaders play a crucial role in the success of the Ten Toes + Transit program. Walk Leaders plan and lead a group of participants on excursions that integrate walking and MetroLink or MetroBus travel. Walks typically range from a quarter mile to five miles and are designed to highlight unique destinations throughout the region, from cultural institutions to neighborhood gems. CMT staff is available to assist new Walk Leaders with developing destination ideas and planning their transit travel and walking route.

Leaders are asked to commit to leading at least three walks during a 12-week session. If you’re passionate about walking, public transit, and helping others connect with their community, contact CMT at info@cmt-stl.org to learn more and get started.

Rider Engagement:

CMT’s “Street Team” is made up of a team of volunteers that participate in quarterly rider engagement events. Volunteers are typically directed to be at a MetroBus stop, MetroLink station, or Metro Transit Center for a period of time during the morning or afternoon commute on a weekday. Volunteers are provided with materials, including a giveaway item and information about an educational campaign or program that CMT offers that may be of interest to riders. If you are passionate about public transit and like interfacing with the public, the Street Team may be a good fit for you. Contact CMT at info@cmt-stl.org to learn more and get started. You will be added to a contact list and sent information about upcoming rider engagement events.
