Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT) is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join the Ten Toes + Transit program as walk leaders. The program encourages area residents to explore the St. Louis region by combining the benefits of walking with public transit use, all while promoting healthy living, community engagement, and learning about the surrounding area.
Walk leaders play a crucial role in the success of the Ten Toes + Transit program. Each volunteer is responsible for planning and leading a group of participants on excursions that integrate walking and MetroLink or MetroBus travel. Walks typically range from a quarter mile to five miles and are designed to highlight unique destinations throughout the region, from cultural institutions to neighborhood gems.
Walk leaders are encouraged to bring their own interests and expertise to each walk. Walk leaders are encouraged to be creative and consider their own interests which may include historical tours, sharing local knowledge, or simply creating a welcoming and social atmosphere for program participants.
CMT provides all the support necessary to get started, including route planning assistance, program materials, and ongoing staff coordination. Leaders are asked to commit to leading at least three walks during a 12-week session. If you’re passionate about walking, public transit, and helping others connect with their community, contact CMT at info@cmt-stl.org to learn more and get started.
