CMT’s Ten Toes + Transit Program and Metro Transit to Collaborate on Week Without Driving Event

In 2023, Disability Rights Washington and America Walks joined forces to launch the first national Week Without Driving challenge. During the seven-day event, individuals were challenged to give up their personal vehicles and experience what life is like without a car – something organizers say is a reality for nearly a third of people living in the United States.

More specifically, the challenge was created so those who have the option to drive can better understand the barriers and obstacles regularly faced by nondrivers with the goal of working collectively to make communities more accessible for all.

The challenge is returning for a third time in 2025 and Citizens for Modern Transit’s Ten Toes + Transit program is collaborating with Metro Transit to lead a guided Transit 101 excursion on Tuesday, Sept. 30 from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. The event will teach those new to public transit exactly how to ride, eliminating any anxiety around trying it out for the first time.

This 60-minute lesson will include pointers on purchasing fare, safety tips and a chance to practice riding both MetroBus and MetroLink as a group. To accommodate downtown residents and workers, this event will take place during the lunch hour and depart from the 8th & Pine MetroLink Station. You may register for this event here.

Week Without Driving is scheduled for September 29 – October 5. Visit Trailnet’s website to view other Week Without Driving events.
