Transit Matters. Fiscal Year 2025 Annual Report.

Public transit benefits individuals, the region and the entire state. It gets people where they need to go, preserves and enhances existing neighborhoods, promotes unity, stimulates the economy, achieves regional objectives – and requires collaboration to succeed.

Throughout Fiscal Year 2025, Citizens for Modern Transit (CMT) furthered a wide range of initiatives and programming efforts. Our advocacy work was crucial in getting the state of Missouri to maintain transit investment levels and preventing legislation that would allow carrying concealed weapons on transit. We completed another Transit Stop Transformation Project, this time converting the MetroBus Stop located at 13th Street and Gravois Avenue near Soulard into an ADA-compliant space with pedestrian infrastructure, seating and more. We launched the “Story of a Bench” placemaking program designed to help build better bus stops through the addition of a basic amenity and continued to help further efforts around expansion, safety and security, ridership building, and an array of other transit-related issues and opportunities.

Since its inception in 1985, CMT has grown to represent more than 22,000 constituents, including transit riders, major employers, academic institutions, and labor and community organizations. We remain committed to adhering to the criteria upon which we were established. Our vision, tenacity and extraordinary leadership has played a fundamental role in maintaining a safe, integrated and affordable transportation system for the St. Louis region.

As we head into another year, issues surrounding escalating operating costs, ridership numbers, safety and security, and the need for transit investment at the federal, state and local levels persist. While these are very real and distinct challenges, each also serves as an area for opportunity. CMT will continue to strengthen community collaboration and overall support for transit in order to move the region forward, all while maintaining the organization’s financial stability and capacity. We look forward to working alongside regional leaders as they prepare to make important decisions tied to the future of transit and celebrate several big projects nearing completion.

Transit matters, and by supporting CMT and the region’s transportation system, you are helping to deliver access, opportunity and equity. Thanks for joining us for the ride.
