The historic St. Louis landmark, the Eads Bridge, celebrated its 150th anniversary earlier this year. Completed in 1874, the bridge holds the status of being both the first bridge constructed of steel and the oldest standing bridge on the Mississippi River.

We will meet Eads Bridge expert Amanda Clark of the Missouri Historical Society at Laclede’s Landing MetroLink Station on the lower deck of the Eads Bridge. Amanda will take us on a walk around the base of the bridge and the surrounding area while delving into the history of the bridge as an engineering marvel. We will then reboard MetroLink along with Amanda for a ride to Busch Stadium, traveling through the historic St. Louis Freight Tunnel. Amanda will continue filling us in on the history of the tunnel which served the bridge by carrying both passenger and freight trains underneath the city. We will then return to the Shrewsbury Lansdowne I44 Transit Center via MetroLink.
