for Modern Transit Job Posting for Executive Director
Citizens for Modern Transit is in search of an executive director
to lead the organization in St. Louis, MO. CMT, a 1000-member organization
with a 26-member volunteer board, leads the St. Louis region's advocacy
efforts for a robust and expanding transit system, especially light
rail. The organization also is concerned with passenger rail and pedestrian
issues.
The successful candidate should have knowledge of transit; transit
oriented development; local, state and federal governments and their
policies affecting transit.
CMT has a small staff. Duties are many and varied including representing
transit issues to the public, media and elected officials; fund raising
and grant writing; managing the business of the organization and the
consultants who help the organization achieve its goals. In addition
the executive director works with the board of directors and various
board committees to carry out the mission and achieve the goals of
the organization. CMT also manages three other small affiliated entities.

be july 13 and 14 from 9-11 a.m. or 2-5 p.m. at the offices of Welsch,
Flatness & Lutz at 308 North 21st, corner of Olive & 21st. Applicants
selected to continue after the first interview will go through skills
assessment testing. When this is completed and the results reviewed
by the committee, the applicants will be asked to participate in a
final interview.
JOB DESCRIPTION:

In conjunction with the Board of Directors,
develop goals, objectives, strategies and tasks to carry out the
mission of the organization.

Provide staff support to the Board Committees
- Executive Committee, Nominating, Finance, Membership, and TOD
who work to carryout the mission.

Assist the Board in developing positions on
how transit should be implemented on a regional level and advocate
those positions with decision makers and the public.

Advocate on behalf of passenger rail to the
public and decision makers. Direct CMT lobbyist in advocating CMT
positions in Jefferson City.

Collaborate with staff and board to develop
strategies to fund the organization including, identifying grant
opportunities, contractual opportunities and gifts to the organization.
Also develop and assist in implementing the plans to increase the
number and revenue from dues paying members. Assist the program
director in implementing grants.

Represent the cause of transit and CMT to the
media. Collaborate with staff to develop and implement effective
strategies to communicate with members, supporters and the public
at large including web based as well as print media.

Represent the organization and the cause of
transit in general with local state and national organizations and
elected officials. These include The Greater St. Louis Transit Alliance,
The Partnership for Downtown St. Louis, RCGA, Trailnet, ULI, The
Missouri Public Transit Association, The Missouri Passenger Rail
Coalition, The American Public Transportation Association, The National
Association of Public Transit Advocates, Rail~Volution, and T 4
America.

Manage the day-to-day operation of CMT.

Also manage the affiliated organizations of
The Greater St. Louis Transit Alliance, The St. Louis Car Sharing
Cooperative, and The Missouri Passenger Rail Coalition.

Provide staff support for the Loop Trolley
Company.

Develop a working knowledge of the transit
system.

Represent the concerns of transit riders to
East-West Gateway Council of Governments, Metro and the St. Clair
County Transit District.

Develop opportunities to collaborate with Metro
and St. Clair County Transit for the advancement of transit.
