Make a special gift to CMT of $100 or more and help us let the regino know that "Some of us ride it, but all of us need it!"
4/7/10

I hope you saw the Citizens for Modern Transit's(CMT) recent media campaign featuring the slogan, "Transit - Some of us ride it, all of us need it.” The education campaign was a crucial part of the recent success of Proposition A, educating the public about the far reaching positive benefits of transit and the consequences of a diminished system. Perhaps you saw the television commercials of community leaders and stranded riders or heard the radio commercials of a nurse who used transit to get to work. There were billboards and bus shelter ads as well.

CMT funded the campaign at more than $400,000 from our reserves feeling that this was the most critical juncture for transit the region has ever seen. We must restore those reserves to keep CMT strong. You can do your part by making a special gift to CMT today!

The principal mission of CMT is to work to expand MetroLink. We have been doing this since 1985. Now here we are 25 years later having started with no MetroLink and now there are 43 miles of light rail serving the region and a funding source on the table for more extensions in the future. CMT is working harder than ever to make sure that St. Louisans get out and get their voices heard on their transit priorities for the future.

MetroLink has proven that it can provide significant benefits. It has record ridership numbers, record levels of investment along the alignment, and a huge catalyst for a sustainable region. MetroLink provides a huge return on the region’s investments:

• Accessibility to jobs and cultural institutions in St. Louis
• Catalyst for economic development such as the Northside, Southside, West County and North Park corridors
• An option for families to go green
• A way to put money back into St. Louisans’ pockets by providing an inexpensive but high quality transportation option for the region
• A way to move St. Louis into a ‘first tier’ city

That’s why it is important for CMT to be a large and vocal organization representing young professionals, families, seniors, organizations and businesses in the region, letting elected officials know about the importance of expanding MetroLink and making it easier for everyone to get around. The key is that even if you don’t use the system, you need it to make this region work.

To ensure the organization stays strong, I am asking that you consider a special gift to CMT this spring. Make a gift of $100 or above and receive one free 10 ride pass booklet, valued at $27.50. Take your family and friends on MetroLink or commute to work for a week on CMT as a special benefit.

Sincerely,

Thomas Shrout,

Executive Director of CMT
