MetroBus Celebrates 50 Years of Service!

MetroBus, formerly known as Bi-State Development Agency, celebrates 50 years of service this week.  In 1963, Bi-State purchased 15 different transit companies to streamline public transport services in the region.

This weekend, Ken Leiser of the St. Louis Post Dispatch, reflected on Bi-State’s history noting the following important aspects of our transit services about which St. Louisan’s can be proud:

  • It was one of the first transit agencies to operate buses with wheelchair lifts.
  • It has worked through the financial struggles many other transit agencies still face.
  • Our bus service now ranks among the fastest growing in the nation.MetroBus50

Public Transportation in St. Louis celebrates two historic anniversaries this year.  In addition to the MetroBus anniversary, MetroLink will celebrate its 20th anniversary on July 31, 2013.

Citizens for Modern Transit will be commemorating this milestone in MetroLink history with an anniversary event this summer.  Stay tuned for additional details.
